World's best beaches for wildlife

An equine retreat in Maryland
From a Costa Rican turtle sanctuary to a colony of king penguins in Chile, these five spots give wildlife lovers good reason to grab their sunscreen. Thought to be the descendants of domesticated horses released onto the island in the 17th Century, more than 300 wild ponies call Assateague Island off the Maryland coast home. Nearly 40,000 visitors travel to the US shore each summer for the annual Chincoteague Pony Swim, an event in which the island’s herds paddle from Assateague to neighbouring Chincoteague.
